MINIMALISM - WHY IT WORKS AND HOW TO WEAR IT

The Minimalists
For a simple life.

A tidy and minimalistic wardrobe not only makes for easy mornings it also helps to de-clutter your mind. There are just a few basic rules to follow for a  minimalists approach to dressing.

Sort through your wardrobe piece by piece - be firm - if you haven't worn an item in the last year its unlikely you will wear it again, so put it aside to be recycled, given away or sold through our pre-owned section, Ebay or similar. Give new life to the pieces you no longer want or need, allowing someone else to enjoy them for many more years.
Now, really assess your wardrobe. What are your specific needs, what pieces are you missing? Look to build a capsule of easily interchangeable modern pieces. Buy smarter to get more out of the pieces you already have in your wardrobe.

KEY PIECES:

Consider high-rise straight-leg jeans your new go-to. Chic and universally flattering, try Frame's Le High Straight in Solana or if you simply are not brave enough to ditch your skinnies, Citizens of Humanity's Rocket Crop in mid-blue… they will both put a relaxed spin on your off-duty look.

Always have a couple of simple classic shirts in the mix. Closed has an aesthetic that embodies classic, comfortable minimalism. The Hailey shirt in organic cotton comes in a different colour each season, these are essential as they are super versatile and can be worn easily both on and off duty.

An oversized pullover is key to any minimalist’s Autumn wardrobe - simple yet wonderfully sophisticated. Bonus points for wearing it as part of a tonal outfit. See Soeur's Aqua knit, beautifully subtle and ultra-versatile.

The semi-occasion blouses. At Stil these are central to what we offer, I call then semi-occasion as they can be worn for casual suppers or dinners out. Ulla Johnson is the queen of the beautiful blouse - think statement sleeves, maximum impact with very little effort. Partner with denim or a skirt.

An all over tonal look is the sartorial equivalent to a minimalists suit, think your favourite denim with a navy sweater and navy tote. Think a two-piece relaxed suit with a tonal blouse.

If you stick to a classic colour palette your accessories can be as luxurious as you like. Try Le Specs Airheart in Caramel and Hermina Athens Lost Sea Baroque pearl necklace.

Minimalist dressing is here to stay. True minimalism is less about dressing simply and more about streamlining the sometimes overwhelming process of getting dressed.

Just don't over-think it.
